About Me

I'm Ric (or Richard) Hopwood. I'm an artist, photographer and art consultant based near Batley, West Yorkshire. I'm also passionate about rugby league and am a lifelong supporter of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats! This blog features everything about all of those hobbies and passions!

Through my business, EntirelyArt, I act as an art consultant, providing bespoke art for use within homes, offices, bars or restaurants. This can include my own hand-painted original abstract art, abstract canvas art prints or photography, but equally can include the use of other artists with skills different to my own.

The aim is to provide clients with original bespoke art suited to its intended environment, that can enhance the clients workspace. In the case of bars and restaurants, the bespoke artwork created may follow a particular theme, helping with company branding, as well as adding a visual statement to impress visitors.

I have always had an interest in Art, and after studying this at school, I moved on to attend Batley School of Art & Design where I became mostly interested in creating big pieces of abstract canvas art. I love the freedom of just splashing a load of paint (and some mixed media) around and seeing what happens! I took Life Drawing classes too so I'm quite accomplished with illustration, but for me I'm most happy when I don't have to sketch anything too accurately!

I took up an interest in photography while working on my various art projects. I normally have my camera with me wherever I travel. I take photographs of views that inspire me, mesmerising scenery and stunning landscapes.

I also take great interest in the history of the places I photograph. Such as my photo-journalism work, where I took photographs around my local city of Wakefield of the old market hall before it was knocked down.

I love the idea that a photograph is a moment trapped in time and also the idea that every photo hides a story, for instance, when I'm photographing people I aim for the spontaneous and natural element, I don't like to make my photography look too posed.

I particularly like the fashion and creative elements of photography, it's great to be able to pick a location and photograph a model reacting with the natural setting of that location. I prefer this style of working as opposed to setting up a shot in a photographic studio.

I don't use lots of fancy effects and studio trickery, I prefer to interact with my subject and produce simple, natural and effective photographs. In fact, the baby portraits I have achieved were done in the comfort of the clients home, with a relaxed approach and a cup of coffee in between shots!
